Periodic investigations into the casino operator

We are required to thoroughly investigate the casino operator every five years, as per section 25 of the Casino Control Act 1991(opens in a new window).

The last major review (the Sixth Review) took place in 2018.

The next review, the Seventh Review, was delayed due to the Royal Commission into the Casino Operator and Licence, and the Commission’s assessment of Crown Melbourne’s suitability.

In March 2024, the Commission determined that Crown Melbourne was suitable to keep its casino licence.

We plan to begin the Seventh Review in mid-2027. At that time, we will assess and form a view on the casino operator’s suitability.

This will include reviewing:

  • its conduct
  • its operational and financial performance
  • its compliance with legal and regulatory obligations since 2024
