This page outlines the requirements for photographs when applying for your Gaming Industry Employee (GIE) licence or Casino Special Employee (CSE) licence.
Get a photograph for your application
If your application requires you to submit your photograph, then make sure that:
- your photo is not more than 3 months old
- you only submit a passport-style photo
- your photo is submitted in digital format
We accept PDF, JPEG or PNG files.
Your photo must meet these requirements:
Photo size
Photos must be:
- 35mm to 40mm wide
- 45mm to 50mm high
The height of your face, from chin to crown, must be 32mm to 36mm.
Photo quality
Photos must be:
- good quality colour photos
- clear, focused image with no marks or 'red eye'
- plain white or light grey background that contrasts with your face
- consistent lighting (no shadows or reflections), with appropriate brightness and contrast to show natural skin tone
- face centred and looking at camera straight on; not tilted
- no retouching (no removing background, moles, wrinkles, scars)
- hair off face, so that edges of your face are visible
- eyes open, mouth closed
- glasses are not allowed in passport photos. If you cannot remove your glasses for medical reasons:
- the frames must not obscure your eyes, and
- there can’t be any reflection from the lenses.
- neutral expression (not smiling, laughing, or frowning)
- if you usually cover your head for religious reasons, you can wear the covering in your photo
- jewellery can’t obscure any part of your face, especially the eyes, mouth and nose. There cannot be reflection from rings or studs.
