Replace or update your pre-2008 gaming machines by 1 July 2023

Gaming venues have until 1 July 2023 to replace or upgrade gaming machines installed before 2008 with credit limits that exceed $1,000.

In 2008, credit limits were reduced on EGM games from $9,949 to $1,000 as an anti-money laundering and harm minimisation measure. From 1 July 2023, we will withdraw approval of games that operate on pre-2008 EGMs still accepting credits over $1,000.

This reduction in the credit limit only applied to EGM games approved after 2008, and as a result some legacy EGMs continue to accept credits exceeding $1,000 (impacted EGMs) and present an ongoing money laundering risk. To mitigate the money laundering risk, we will withdraw approval of the relevant EGM games that operate on the impacted EGMs from 1 July 2023.

Credit limits refer to the maximum amount of credits available on an EGM before it no longer accepts cash or tickets inserted by the player.

Please find a list of all impacted EGMs and games that we expect to withdraw on 1 July 2023.

Actions for all gaming venues

  1. Review the list of impacted EGM games and ensure none of them are operating at your venue.
  2. Advise us of any impacted EGMs you detect at your venue.
  3. Replace/upgrade any EGMs at your venue that accept credits above $1,000 by 1 July 2023, noting the EGM manufacturer may be able to help you upgrade the impacted EGM or game.

Any impacted EGMs operating after 1 July 2023 will be automatically decommissioned by Intralot Gaming Services to avoid any non-compliance by venue operators and relevant EGM games will no longer be approved for operation post this date.
