Managing EGMs with venue closures arising from coronavirus

Venue operators who wish to turn off their electronic gaming machines (EGMs) to save power during this period of closure should consider seeking advice from service providers or EGM manufacturers directly on the most appropriate process to follow.

We are aware that some manufacturers have advised that:

  • some EGMs in a ‘power-down’ state for prolonged periods may develop problems with battery power
  • older EGMs are more susceptible to component failure through repeated power cycles.

Venues should also be aware of any requirements relating to monitoring equipment including site controllers, communications racks, routers/switches, SMIBS, UPS and MicroLOT terminals. Intralot recently wrote to all venue operators outlining these requirements.
