Venue operators must review their policies, procedures and staff training to ensure minors cannot access poker machine areas or gamble at their venues.
Additional conditions have been applied to the licences of the Victorian Amateur Turf Club (which incorporates Melbourne Racing Club/MRC) and related entity Melbourne Racing Club F&B Limited, following the outcome of criminal proceedings in the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria in February.
The VGCCC has instructed MRC, within 12 months and at its own cost, to:
- engage an independent expert to assess the risk of minors entering the poker machine area of each of the 14 venues approved to operate under its licence and the related entity licence
- provide the expert’s report to the VGCCC
- attest that the expert’s recommendations have been implemented.
It is an offence for minors to enter the poker machine area of any premises – without exception. The VGCCC will take action against those who do not comply with the law.
