Premises that advertise wagering or betting services are reminded that such advertising is prohibited in certain circumstances.

Changes to the law that came into effect last year prohibit static betting advertising of gambling by wagering service providers

  • within 150 metres of the perimeter of a school
  • on public transport infrastructure
  • on or above public roads, road reserves and road infrastructure.

Static betting advertising includes billboards, signs, banners and digital billboards.

The types of advertising that is prohibited includes

  • an A Frame display on a footpath advertising wagering or betting where a school is located within 150 metres
  • a billboard located directly above a road that advertises a wagering or betting
  • advertising of wagering or betting on a tram or train

Traders such as newsagents or service stations that advertise on behalf of wagering service providers, may wish to check with their wagering company for further details on the prohibition.
